Hello Seaboard Family,
What a great reunion! Downtown Charleston seemed to be the perfect setting. Everyone enjoyed the bus trip to the USS Yorktown and the historic tour of Charleston. The hotel was lovely and over 100 people attended the banquet.
It was great seeing everyone again. I only wish we had more time to spend with each of you. We were especially thrilled to see so many first-timers and are always happy to see our friends from the UK and Germany.
Many of you have asked where and when we will hold Reunion 2010. The selection process has already begun. As soon as we choose next years' site we will let you know.
Thank you again to Paul and Sheila Cellecz, Ed and Anita Bouvier and special thanks to Helene Paiva and Patricia Jordan for their help in the hospitality suite.
Those who attended the reunion this year received a special gift from SPAR. It is a DVD of "A Crewmembers Album" produced by Captains David Hill and Ken Kahn. Originally offered in VHS format in 1999, I had it remastered in a higher quality format (unavailable 10 years ago). Every member of SPAR will be receiving a copy in the near future. We encourage you to share this wonderful gift of our history with family and friends.
Please let your Seaboard Family know of any special events in your lives with a short note or pictures. This way we can all stay connected throughout the year. Just send it to Ken Kahn or to me (e-mail address in the directory).
In closing I just want to stress that SPAR stands for Seaboard Pilots And Retirees. We encourage all former employees of Seaboard World to join SPAR. This includes Pilots, Flight Engineers, Navigators, Stewardesses, Mechanics, Operations, and any one else who has ever worked for SWA....we are all family and have a story to tell.
Sincerely,
Lou and Kathy Furlong
