JoAnn was born and raised in Marquette, Michigan. After graduating from Graveraet High School, she earned a bachelor’s degree from Northern Michigan University.
After her career as a flight attendant at Seaboard and Flying Tigers, she returned to school to pursue a new path as a corrections officer for the State of Michigan. She retired after years of dedicated service. JoAnn always lived an active life. She took part in continuing education, studied art at the senior center, attended swimming courses at NMU, and enjoyed bike riding, kayaking, and gardening. She even earned her motorcycle endorsement.
JoAnn was predeceased by her brother, Marvin Benzing; and her sister, Marlene Benzing Christensen. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She is seen here at the Seaboard reunion in Washington, D.C. in April 2012.
