Capt. Charlie Greene was born in Brooklyn, NY. He served in the U.S. Army for two years. He attended the Academy of Aeronautics where he earned his Airframe and Powerplant license. After graduation, he started his aviation career as a machinist at Grumman Aircraft Corporation on Long Island, NY. After a year, he became an aircraft mechanic at JFK airport. He was hired as a pilot by Seaboard in 1968. He rose to captain and eventually retired from FedEx.
In 1985, Charlie and his wife, Kathleen McQuillan, whom he had married in 1956, moved to Montauk, NY. There, Charlie built their dream home with the help of his best friend, John Selee. After Charlie retired from FedEx in 1998, the couple moved to West Ossipee, NH. They lived in an aviation community where Charlie kept his Piper Cub. He rebuilt it twice in his hangar. In 2016, they moved for the last time to Stuart, Fla.
Charlie was predeceased by Kathy, his wife of almost 65 years; his sister Frances McManus; and his brother, Leo Greene. He is survived by his sister Mary St John; and his six children; sons Charles Patrick, Kevin Francis; daughters Patricia Marie, Kathleen Mary, Theresa Ann, and Eileen Elizabeth.
