Jim Haynes was born in Galax, VA. He served in the U.S. Air Force. After a long career as a flight engineer, he upgraded to copilot shortly before medical retirement from Flying Tigers in 1989. Jim was ordained as a deacon at Southbury Baptist Church in Connecticut on November 13, 1988. In 1992, Jim and Sibyl moved to New Bern NC where he eventually became a deacon emeritus.
Jim was predeceased by his parents; brother, Harry Lee Haynes; sister, Shirley H. Tompkins; and granddaughter Zoe Hope. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sibyl Marie Haynes; children, Ted Haynes Hope and Paula, April Wiltshire and Calvin, James Everett Haynes III and Kelly, Laura Cole and David; grandchildren Brooke, Cassandra and husband Andrew, Hilary, Calli, Caleb and wife Jessie, David Jr, Jonathan, and Rachel; great-grandchildren Finleigh, Connor, Quinn, twins Eli and Waylon; sisters Phyllis Barbour and Heraldean and Virginia Phelps and Charles; and nieces and nephews.
