Capt. Bob McAllister was born in Yonkers, N.Y. In high school, he played basketball, football, and track. He also met his future wife, Shirley Bennett, there. After graduation, Bob joined the U.S. Navy as an aviation cadet. He served as a Navy pilot in World War II, on the USS Coral Sea; and in the Korean War, on the USS Lake Champlain; flying several types of fighters. He was awarded an Air Medal for his actions in the Korean War and retired as a Lieutenant Commander after twenty-two years of active and reserve service.
During his career, Bob was actively involved in harness racing, and he owned, trained, and drove race horses. He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Smith; and by sons Robert Jr., Thomas, and Richard.
