Capt. John Shields was born in Queens, New York. He was hired by Flying Tigers in 1966. While on furlough, he was hired by Seaboard in 1969 but returned to Tigers when recalled. He rose to captain at Tigers and continued at FedEx until he retired at 60 in 2002.
John also served in the Naval Reserve for six years including as a radio operator on P-3 aircraft.
John is survived by his sister, Mary Shields; his daughter, Kathleen; and son, Patrick.
