Received from Capt. Steve Albers:
Kenny,
You are not going to believe this. But first some history. You may remember how pleased I was to report at our last reunion that, after years of effort, I had solved my medical problems and had qualified for a First Class Medical Certificate again. Well, a number of colleagues asked me for some pointers. I told all who would listen I had done pretty much nothing more than work on my health issues for a couple of years.
In the process of all that research I assembled a list of enterprising doctors who have specialized in solving health problems. One of them is Dr. Caldwell B. Esselstyn from the world famous Cleveland Clinic. I never had to use him because I solved my problems before I needed him. But I kept track of his activities because I found him to be such an inspired and dedicated researcher in the field of heart attack prevention through nutrition. A few days ago I heard that Dr. Esselstyn had published a book on how to REVERSE heart disease. Upon reading the book I found that I pretty much followed his radical guidelines with great success by default.
Today I have a resting pulse rate of 42, blood pressure of 98/64, cholesterol of 124 and an physiological age of 39 according to tests done at the National Institute of fitness and Sports in Indianapolis.
The web site for his book is:

I'm convinced this book has the capability of saving the lives of many of our colleagues. But what good is a book if no one will read it? To that end I have a really neat proposal. Get this. Apparently Dr. Esselstyn served as an Army surgeon in Vietnam. There is a one hour video on his web site that covers a slide presentation he made on the subject of reversing heart disease (at the bottom of the page):

Out of curiosity I viewed the video this morning. Now here comes the good part. He has a picture of overweight solders boarding an aircraft to make the point that the young men he operated on in Vietnam showed plaque in their veins. And the aircraft they are boarding is a SEABOARD DC-8. I called him this morning and he confirms he took that picture himself during departure from Vietnam. He assembled his slide presentation from personal pictures and apparently Seaboard flew him from Vietnam to McCord where he mustered out!
Now if you were to send out a blurb about this to all reunion members, telling them they can see a picture of a Seaboard DC-8 in this video they just might learn something about curing heart disease in the process! Dr. Esselstyn is an eventuality for curing heart diseased through nutrition. He told me this morning that he is available to make presentations to groups on the subject. If there is enough interest one of his presentations might be considered for our reunion.
Sincerely,
Stephen
